Welcome to the Law Office of Ronald Mangum
Mangum, Smietanka & Johnson was originally formed in 1894 as a partnership of Julius Smietanka and George E.Q. Johnson, in Chicago, Illinois. The firm later became Smietanka, Conlon and Nowak with offices at 7 S. Dearborn St., Chicago, and George Johnson left the firm in 1927 to become the United States District Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and briefly thereafter a Federal Court Judge. Among well know firm clients was the renowned comedian and actor W.C. Fields.
The firm was reconstituted in 1982, when Allan J. Smietanka and George E.Q. Johnson, Jr., both of whom had practiced with their fathers, joined with Ronald Scott Mangum to form the firm of Mangum, Smietanka and Johnson. The firm incorporated as a Limited Liability Company in 1999. Allan J. Smietanka, a 1946 graduate of The John Marshall Law School, died Nov. 2, 2001, at age 89. LCDR (Ret.) George E.Q. Johnson Jr., a graduate of Northwestern University School of Law, died March 23, 2010 at age 93.
